The Singing Stream - A Collection of Poetry

Author(s): Ingrid Prosser

NZ Poetry

The Singing Stream is Kapiti-based performance poet Ingrid Prosser’s first full-length collection of poems (following three A6 books sold mostly at performances). The poems are in three cycles, inspired by holidays in Wales, France and Cornwall.

In each place, the poet immersed herself in local history and preoccupations, both past and present – while walking, exploring, visiting churches and other buildings. The poems are of seascapes and townscapes; they explore the natural world, historical figures and myth. There are religious and artistic connections; and of course, the poet’s responses to all these things.

Each of the cycles has its own atmosphere: Song of St David’s is full of energetic beauty and reverence; La Baie de Somme rather dramatic; and A Cornish Pilgrimage, gentle.
